Discovery: No Place For Hate 20-21

Michelle Magner of the Anti-Defamation League of Washington, D.C. today congratulated Discovery Elementary School on earning No Place for Hate® designation for the 2020-2021 school year.

Discovery is proud of this accomplishment, especially considering the added challenges of the school closures and the health crisis. The school is grateful to all of the Discovery teachers and staff for supporting this program. We thank Ms. Renita Upshur, the Chairperson of the Discovery Equity Leadership Team Assembled, our school equity team, and Mr. Keith David Reeves, the Lead Teacher for No Place for Hate at Discovery.

We welcome everyone to view ADL DC’s virtual ceremony for the 2020-2021 school year.

No Place for Hate involves Discovery students, families, and the community to build cultural competency. A collaborative strategy between students, teachers, APS, and experts, NPFH helps people in our school and community understand bias and combat its negative effects. Through thoughtful and appropriate programs of study and discussion, No Place for Hate recognizes the value of diversity in a pluralistic, democratic society, and develops strategies for all stakeholders to communicate effectively across our unique differences. The strategy explicitly examines the relationships between individual biases and systematic oppression, including the impact of intersecting oppressions. The aim of the strategy is to help create a more equitable and just society.
