My goal as a Physical Education teacher is to teach students the skill and knowledge about physical fitness, and to carry it over into their personal lives outside of school. I want to bring a fun and engaging environment to the field of physical education. I am a firm believer in constantly learning and developing, and I hope to instill that philosophy into my teaching. I look forward to bringing my passion for teaching sports and teaching children to Discovery!
I have taken a very windy and unusual path to becoming a Physical Education teacher. I graduated from James Madison University with a Political Science Degree in 2010. While working for a Lobbying firm and then a Logistics firm I spent my spare time coaching both youth basketball and baseball. It was during this time that I realized my true enjoyment was coming from coaching. I then made the decision to switch my career and pursue the path of becoming a Physical Education teacher. In 2016 I entered a Career Switch Program and earned my teaching license the following year. I am excited to have my first year of teaching be with Discover Elementary School.
I was born and raised in Arlington, Virginia and was a fellow student in the Arlington County Public School System. My love for this area motivated my decision to come back and to get involved in volunteer coaching. I have been coaching since 2010 and currently coach travel baseball for the Arlington Senators. When I am not coaching I spend my time exercising, exploring historical landmarks, new restaurants, and reading. I am always up for trying anything new so you may often find me at a grand opening for a restaurant in the DC area.
As a curious person and always having the need to try something new, my choice of literary work is Curious George. Curious George has been a book and series I have read throughout my life both as a child and as an adult. This book is an exact depiction of who I am, someone with the urge and desire for adventure sprinkled with a dash of humor.
