“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” – John Quincy Adams

My role as an educator is to lead by example in my classroom and instill this idea in all of my students in order for them to grow not only cognitively but also socially and emotionally. I plan to engage students in well-designed lessons based on students’ interests and research-based practices. Creating a classroom community in the beginning of the year is how I create an atmosphere where students are comfortable and excited to come to school every day and take on challenges with great confidence.

Professional Background

I hold a Masters Degree from University of Virginia in Reading Instruction and I am a certified Reading Specialist K-12. I started my teaching career in my hometown of Ashburn, VA in 2011. For the past seven years, I taught second grade both in Loudoun County and at Discovery Elementary.

Personal Interest

I got married in June 2017 and officially changed my name from Ms. Ansell to Mrs. Oby!

Growing up with four siblings, I was taught the importance of family values and close relationships. Thanks to my siblings, my competitive nature drives me to excel in both my professional and personal life. I enjoy working out and playing sports in my free time as well as spending time with my family and friends.

Literary Connection

The Relatives Came is about a large family in Virginia going on a long car ride to visit family north of them. When the family arrived they hugged and hugged, and even while eating hugged some more. The relatives stayed for many weeks helping around the house and in the garden. Everyone shared a bed too. The time came for the relatives to go back to Virginia, and on the way home they were sad to leave but were already planning the next summer together.Being in a family of seven, our vacations were quite chaotic but memories that I will forever cherish. When I read The Relatives Came for the first time, I swore it was written based on my family. Every page describes a unique moment that I connected with as a young girl. At Discovery Elementary, I want to share family stories and create our own cherished moments that will always be remembered.
