My goal as a Physical Education teacher is to teach students the skills and knowledge necessary to make healthy choices and make physical activity an enjoyable part of everyday life. I believe PE needs to be fun and should build a foundation for students to be creative and learn how to play, all while making them healthier. I look forward to modeling the importance of teamwork through collaborating with my experienced, energetic and passionate team!

Professional Background

I’ve been passionate about physical fitness and health my entire life. I received a B.S. in Kinesiology from Arizona State University and had the privilege to work with a number of organizations that trained professional athletes and help them with rehabilitation and performance. After college I moved to Los Angeles and worked as a corporate wellness coordinator and personal trainer. Shortly after, I moved to San Diego where I continued to work as a personal trainer and follow my other passion for fashion. After 6 years as a department manager for Nordstrom I decided to change paths and get my teaching license. I received my B.S. in Health and Physical Education from George Mason University. While in school I helped run a non-profit after school fitness program for elementary school aged children. Since graduation I have been working in Fairfax County and have had the unique opportunity to open Mason Crest Elementary in Annandale, VA. In the 3 years of working at Mason Crest, I had the opportunity to work with a diverse student body and build the physical education program from the ground up creating a highly engaging and inclusive program. Being part of a new school is one of the biggest honors for a teacher, and I see this as an opportunity to grow with the students and be part of a program that sets the standard for education in Northern Virginia. In addition to teaching, I am also a physical trainer and certified Pilates instructor.

Personal Interests

I live in Arlington with my husband, 2 children and dog. My family and I spend most of our time being physically active or watching sports. I am an avid snowboarder and softball player and enjoy being outdoors during all seasons. As a Jersey girl, born and raised, I am a loyal Yankee and Giants fan. I also love traveling. I traveled most of the world by boat and am happiest when near an ocean. I enjoy spending much of my summer on the Jersey shore with my family.

Literary Connection

As a mother of two kids, my taste in books has taken a turn toward having more pictures, shorter stories, and basic life lessons. The Little Blue Truck is a book that I’ve been reading to my daughter Fiona since she was little, and I’ve started reading to our newborn son, Connor. Sometimes simplicity is the best conduit to instill an important message, and this series of books distills lessons down to easily understood analogies that should be used by kids of all ages: hard work makes you successful, it doesn’t matter how big you are to positively affect a situation, and treat others how you want to be treated. It takes the golden rules and makes it easy for children (and adults) to understand and use in every day life.
