Professional Background

I came to Arlington Public Schools in 2000 as the general and vocal music teacher at Taylor Elementary School. I have over twenty years of teaching experience in both vocal, general, and instrumental music. After four years of teaching middle school band, I returned to teach elementary instrumental music in 2009 and I am currently teaching at Nottingham Elementary and Discovery Elementary Schools. I completed a B.Mus. degree in music education from Houghton College in 1990 and will earn an M.M. Degree in Clarinet Performance from George Mason University this December. I have studied privately with several world renown clarinetist including Loren Kitt, Gary Gray, and Mitchell Lurie. I also am a freelance clarinetist and have played in several notable orchestras: Alexandria Symphony, Annapolis Opera and Symphony, South Florida Symphony, and Harrisburg Symphony and many more in California.

Personal Interests

Some of my most memorable musical experiences have been: The AIMS Opera Festival Orchestra, Graz, Austria since 1998; Principal Clarinet, USMC Third Marine Aircraft Wing Band; State Funeral for Richard M. Nixon 1994; and making movie and TV Appearances in “The American President,” “Absolute Power,” “Clear and Present Danger,” and “JAG.”
