Volunteer & Chaperone Requirements

As required by Arlington Public Schools, all volunteers must go through a pre-screening before helping at or going on field trips with Discovery.

Arlington Public Schools uses Raptor Technologies to manage persons wishing to volunteer in the school or chaperone on any field trip. All volunteers or chaperones undergo sex offender screening and will need to complete the online application listed below.

Once your application is submitted, you will receive a generated email that informs you that your application has been received and is going through the review process. Before the volunteer application is approved, you must take and pass a SafeSchools Sexual Misconduct training. During the application review process you will receive information for that training.

If you passed the training last year you don’t have to take the training again. However, you must upload the copy of your certificate in your online application. Applications are valid for 2 years and trainings are valid for 3 years from date of passing.

Once you have completed your training, please notify Anna Senn at [email protected].  Each volunteer or chaperone will be informed of their application approval status once completed.  Please go to the APS Volunteers & Chaperones website if you have any questions or concerns and scroll to the bottom of the page to locate their contact information.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Discovery Elementary School or chaperoning for any of our school field trips.
